What is B-Mark?
B-Mark is a benchmark for comparing rendering times of
Bryce on different PCs. By running a standard *.brc file on a large number of
machines it will be possible to compare your machine with others.
Why benchmark?
One of the best reasons is when you consider buying or
upgrading your computer. The results that are being compiled will give you an idea
of what kind of results you could expect when purchasing a new or upgrading your existing
computer. This way you can have somewhat of an idea how your decision would affect
your render time.
What is in B-Mark?
B-Mark is a Bryce 2 file which incorporates a number of
different elements. There are different objects such as terrains, Booleans, and DXF.
Various textures including glass, water, and metal to totally stress out your
computer. It has an extra light source and interesting shadows. A picture of
the final render is here.
What do I do to benchmark Bryce on my computer?
Download B-Mark, unzip it, render, and send me the results.
It's as simple as that! The file was designed so that rendering on a
computer with a 300 MHz AMD and 64 megs would take about 30 min. I didn't want
to make the file to big because I know you would rather spend your time rendering your own
pictures.
B-Mark version 1.0 contains the following files,
bmarkv1.brc, readme.txt, and email.txt. The readme.txt file contains instructions
for running the benchmark. The email.txt is a form that you fill out and mail back
to me. Download B-Mark.

What version of Bryce do I need?
It will work with all versions 2 or greater. Load as
*.brc the Bryce 2 format. It should also work with the Bryce 3D demo.
Were can I find out how other computers have
performed?
I will use your data to build a table with the results
here.
Are there other benchmark projects?
Here is one specifically for Bryce 3D.
You can find one for POV here at POVBench.
One for Blue Moon Rendered here.
Okay, what does the B stand for, Bryce or
Benchmark?
Both, actually but I thought BB-Mark might be a bit much. |
